Fangs for nothing

Otro día, otro libro, otra reseña, y esta de Netgalley.

Una rom-com en la que un vampiro y una organizadora profesional se unen con una única misión: devolver el castillo en el que residen a su vieja gloria porque mamá-vampiresa-(malvada) quiere celebrar un baile (y obligar a su hijo a casarse, pero esto pasa mucho).

Winnie, la protagonista, es una lectora de novelas eróticas, organizadora profesional y además el equivalente moderno de Jonathan Harker con su curiosa experiencia en el castillo de Alaric (nuestro vampiro sexy y con durísimos problemas).

Como siempre, os dejo la sinopsis, y ya os cuento un poco de qué va la cosa y mi reseña. A ello vamos pues.

He’s a hot, grumpy, reclusive vampire, and the last thing he wants is an interfering human tidying his castle…until her.

Lord Alaric Valerian has a problem. His mother is visiting his castle for the first time, but she doesn’t know that Alaric has filled every room with his centuries of artistic passions and creative pursuits.

Desperate, he hires professional organiser Winnie Preston to help him tame the mess. But Alaric isn’t prepared for bubbly, passionate Winnie to show up at his castle and ram a metaphorical stake through his cold, vampire heart. Winnie sets his fangs on edge, but the more closely he works with her, the more he wishes she could be his.

So when Alaric’s mother arrives with a new bride-to-be in tow, Alaric convinces Winnie to pretend to be his fiance. He may be causing all kinds of scandal in the vampire court by being engaged to a human, but at least he doesn’t have to give up his reclusive life.

But Winnie still doesn’t know Alaric’s a vampire, and Alaric didn’t count on Winnie’s meddling book club pinning him for a mysterious murder in the village. Will their maybe-not-so-fake-marriage survive once Winnie discovers the monster that lurks beneath his fangs?

Tenemos un vampiro sin ganas de aguantar a nadie y que no solo tiene que organizar un baile sino que aún encima se tiene que inventar una prometida para ver si hay suerte y su madre lo deja vivar tranquilo. Para colmo de males una loca a la que le gustan los libros guarros se le mete en casa para decirle que en un castillo tiene que limitar el espacio para sus hobbies a una única habitación para todos ellos (soy él y la hecho, tengo un castillo para darle uso a las habitaciones no para meterlo todo en una). Pero bueno, eso aparte. Entre todo el jaleo de la limpieza y sus duros problemas con Winnie comienza a aparecer gente muerta en el pueblo (¡upsi!) y claro... Pues de alguien tiene que ser la culpa (si le preguntas a al gente, de Alaric).

Winnie por otra parte se encuentra viviendo como Jonathan Harker, en un castillo al que ha ido para cumplir una misión, pasando las noches bebiendo vino junto a la chimenea y en compañía de su noble y misterioso anfitrión.

Todo muy normal, cosas que pasan, pasan que cosas... Ahora, mi reseña:

"In time everything crumbles"

When even the walls of his castle have crumbled, when hoped has long since died, lord Alaric Valerian finds himself living his own version of a romantsy novel. Annoying mother, arranged marriage, ballroom party, blood in the celar? All checked. The only thing he needs to do now is survive long enough to see his old castle cleaned and brought back to live. But every vampire seems to be curse with impossible visitors, and Winifred, with her extensive knowledge of Dracula, her smutty books and her "I'm your polar opposite but don't worry I'm nice and absolutely-not-thinking-about-the-time-we-kissed" is going to make things (if you know, you know) hard for him.

"and I wish, I wish more than I have wished for anything else"

Winifred is like everyother reader. She likes smutty books, villians, hot chocolate and keeping things on a very specific way. And, very much like Jonathan Harker, she embarks in a journey to a creepy castle, where she has to reside until she finishes her job. And very much like in Dracula, she starts noticing strange occurances, but also enjoys having a drink while talking to her misterious and very noble host.

Dracula's references aside, Winnie and Alaric's romance is something both touching and funny, with just the right amount of tension and mistery. But well, a witchy town full of "eccentric" people cannot exist without a few dead bodies appearing at the most improper times. My opinion may be a bit biased, but this books is going straight to the vampire corner of my room, right next to Dracula and the few (enough to make Winnie wish to kill me) other vampire books.

Más o menos lo que ya he comentado, Winnie lee libros cochinos y vive un casi-algo con un señor que es su Drácula particular (con un final un poco más light, eso sí). Y la verdad es que ni tan mal. Es un buen libro, ligerito en su mayoría aunque a veces Winnie sea un poco insoportable. El libro está disponible en inglés en KU, con una valoración media de 4'4 estrellas en Amazon y de 4'09 en Goodreads, hay consenso general aparente en que el libro no está mal. De hecho a mí me encantaría que lo tradujeran para poderlo tener (si hay suerte) en una edición que esté chula, pero de momento nada, no hay suerte.

Más allá de eso, y si el inglés os lo permite, recomiendo leerlo en Kindle (que es gratis) o si sois más de papel, creo que cuesta unos 15 euros en tapa blanda (que no están tan mal, la verdad).
